Exciting news for fans of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series! The live-action adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s popular LitRPG book series is officially in development at Peacock. This project, originally picked up by Universal International Studio in 2025, now has a streaming service attached, marking a significant step forward for the series.
Based on the same-named book series, the show follows Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s talking cat as they navigate a twisted intergalactic gameshow after an alien invasion devastates Earth. The official logline promises a thrilling and humorous adventure as Carl and Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk face off against monsters, aliens, and other survivors in this post-apocalyptic world.
With Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Studios on board, the choice to make the series live action has surprised some fans. However, Dinniman stands by the decision, pointing to the studio’s successful track record with shows like “Ted” and “The Orville.” While we don’t yet have a release date for the series, fans can enjoy the seven existing Dungeon Crawler Carl books while they wait. Additionally, the eighth book, “A Parade of Horribles,” is set to be released next month, along with the first graphic novel adaptation of the story.
