Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot cancelled, Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has officially been staked. Sarah Michelle Gellar shared the sad news that Hulu has decided to pull the plug on the anticipated series, “Buffy: New Sunnydale,” in a video posted on Instagram to her 4.9 million followers.

First mentioned in February 2025, the reboot had fans buzzing over two decades after the original show ended in 2003 and even commenced filming in Los Angeles last August.

Gellar expressed her disappointment with the decision, expressing her love for the character Buffy and appreciating the opportunity to step back into her shoes, credited to Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao, who was set to direct the series.

Despite the cancelation, fans can’t help but feel a sense of loss for this revisit to the beloved show, centered around a new slayer, with Gellar making frequent appearances and serving as an executive producer.
