Eragon Series on Disney+ Announces Showrunners and Executive Producer
Disney fans, get excited! The live-action Eragon TV series on Disney+ is moving full steam ahead with the addition of two new showrunners and an executive producer. According to Variety, Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing are joining forces as co-showrunners, with Harthan also co-creating alongside Christopher Paolini, the author of the beloved Eragon book series. Not only that, but Harthan, Helbing, and Paolini will all be wearing executive producer hats for this highly anticipated series.
In addition to this powerhouse trio, Marc Webb, Rachel Moore, and Bert Salke from Co-Lab 21 are also on board as executive producers for the show, which is being produced by 20th Television. The series has been in the works at Disney+ since 2022 and promises to bring to life the thrilling tale of a teenager destined to become the first Dragon Rider in a century, embarking on a magical journey to take down a tyrannical king.
With Todd Harthan coming in fresh from his role as showrunner on ABC’s “High Potential” and notable credits on shows like “Rosewood” and “Psych,” alongside Todd Helbing, who co-created “Superman & Lois” and led “The Flash,” fans can expect top-tier talent behind the scenes. And let’s not forget about Marc Webb, known for directing hits like “(500) Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” films.
For those unfamiliar with the source material, the Inheritance Cycle includes the books “Eragon,” “Eldest,” “Brisingr,” and “Inheritance,” selling over 40 million copies worldwide. While the 2006 film adaptation of Eragon fell short of expectations, the book series has remained a fan favorite since its debut in 2002. In fact, fan outcry for a TV adaptation led to the #EragonRemake campaign in 2021.
Disney+ has a track record of delivering superior series adaptations of disappointing film adaptations, as seen with “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Here’s to hoping that Eragon fans will be equally thrilled with what’s in store for this upcoming series. While no release date has been announced yet, the future looks bright for this highly anticipated project.
Exciting times lie ahead for Eragon fans, so stay tuned for more updates on this captivating new series on Disney+.
