Disney+ partners with CJ ENM to bring TVING Originals to Japan for streaming

Disney+ has exciting news for Japanese audiences! A new partnership with South Korea’s CJ ENM brings TVING’s popular original shows to Disney+ Japan. Starting November 6th, over 60 top TVING dramas, including fan favorites like Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and Reply 1988, will be available exclusively on Disney+ in Japan.

This collaboration, announced in Tokyo, marks TVING’s first entry into the Japanese market, offering viewers a fresh selection of beloved Korean dramas. The move also signals a strategic expansion for both Disney+ and CJ ENM as they aim to compete with Netflix in Japan, the most valuable streaming market in Asia.

To make it easier for viewers to discover these new shows, Disney+ Japan is creating a dedicated “TVING Highlights” section on its platform. This section will showcase TVING’s popular dramas alongside Disney’s global blockbuster franchises. Additionally, a curated “TVING Collection” hub will feature an extensive catalog of TVING dramas and genre series in one convenient location.

In a statement, Tamotsu Hiiro, managing director of The Walt Disney Company Japan, expressed excitement about expanding Disney+ Japan’s content library as the streaming service celebrates five years in the country. With TVING’s engaging Korean originals now available, viewers in Japan have even more entertainment options to explore on Disney+.
