Cincinnati Bengals vs Chicago Bears: Bengals Lose 47-42 in Close Fourth-Quarter Game
The Cincinnati Bengals faced a heartbreaking 47-42 loss to the Chicago Bears in a fierce battle at Paycor Stadium this past Sunday. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with touchdowns exchanged by both teams, but it was a dramatic final minute that clinched the win for Chicago. Cincinnati made a valiant last-minute effort for a much-needed touchdown, but Chicago linebacker Tremaine Edmunds intercepted Bengals QB Joe Flacco and ran it back for a pick-six, only to have the play called back due to a down by contact ruling.
Flacco had a standout performance, throwing 30-of-44 for 470 yards, and 4 touchdowns, with 2 interceptions. His connection with Noah Fant for a touchdown and successful two-point conversion gave the Bengals a glimmer of hope. With just 54 seconds left on the clock, the Bengals surged ahead thanks to Andrei Iosivas’ touchdown. But Caleb Williams and Colston Loveland’s touchdown secured the win for Chicago.
Despite the loss, the Bengals offense, especially Tee Higgins and Charlie Jones, had some impressive moments. Higgins made two outstanding touchdowns, the first off a deep pass from Flacco in the second quarter and the second in the second half. Jones set the tone early with a 98-yard kick return on the Bengals’ opening drive, and the defense made a game-tying stop just before halftime when Joseph Ossai blocked a field goal attempt by Chicago.
Chicago found success with rushing touchdowns from Brittain Brown and DJ Moore, who also scored a receiving touchdown, and Olamide Zaccheaus found the end zone as well. Head coach Zac Taylor expressed disbelief over the loss, emphasizing the need to make key plays at crucial moments. Flacco stressed the importance of individual accountability and focus going forward.
The Bengals will now enjoy a bye week before facing their AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on Sunday, Nov. 16. With just one win in their last three games, the Bengals will be looking to bounce back and stay competitive in the AFC North conversation.
