Disney+ to Hold Off on Releasing Next Chapter of The MandoVerse Until After Historic Event

The next installment of Disney+’s MandoVerse has been put on hold until another exciting Star Wars project hits the streaming service. Since its debut in 2019 with the first season of The Mandalorian, the MandoVerse has been a driving force behind Star Wars on Disney+. While several series have expanded on this saga, the franchise is taking a different route in the near future.

Star Wars Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi is set to be the next release for the franchise on Disney+ in Summer 2026. This series is a spin-off of the original animated Star Wars: Visions, which has been airing since its launch in September 2021. Despite being one of the lower-rated shows in the Star Wars universe, The Ninth Jedi earned critical acclaim during Visions’ first season. This success led to a second episode in Season 3 and marked the first-ever Star Wars anime spin-off in franchise history.

With The Ninth Jedi up next on Disney+, the next chapter in the MandoVerse, Ahsoka Season 2, will be delayed until after this major release. Ahsoka Season 2’s premiere has been postponed to early 2027, resulting in a four-year gap between seasons after Season 1 debuted in August 2023.

Set after the Skywalker Saga, The Ninth Jedi introduces new lightsaber mechanics, where blade colors change based on the wielder’s Force alignment. This episode also teases potential for more Star Wars projects, as the franchise explores different corners of the universe, like Star Wars: Starfighter.

Looking ahead, the future of the MandoVerse remains uncertain after the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first project in the MandoVerse not on Disney+. While the movie has faced financial challenges in theaters, the big question is how this saga will continue in the streaming realm.

As of now, there are no new MandoVerse projects in the works, with Ahsoka Season 2 being the most recent addition scheduled for release next year. The outlook for future MandoVerse projects is somewhat bleak at the moment.

While the possibility of another season of The Mandalorian is slim, the fate of Ahsoka Season 3 remains uncertain, pending the performance of Season 2. Even with hopes from some of the stars of The Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew, there have been significant gaps since the release of these shows. The MandoVerse is evolving, with potential exceptions on the horizon.
