o local content, investing in stories that will resonate with audiences both here in Canada and around the world. These new series mark Disney+’s first foray into original Canadian content, a move that highlights the wealth of talent found in Canada.

“Knighted,” a comedy series, is set to take viewers on a journey through a missing person case that uncovers the mysterious secrets of a medieval dinner theater. The show was developed by Bruce McCulloch from “Kids in the Hall,” along with creators Jackson Row and Mike Mildon, and also features the talents of Trevor Rotenberg, Zack Waxenberg, and Greg Walter.

On the other hand, the true crime series “I’m Not Coming Back” delves into the chilling 2019 rampage that saw two individuals go on a killing spree before disappearing into the Canadian wilderness. Produced by Tuck Shop Media and Hodgee Films, the show is led by Joe Tuck and Brent Hodge.

Paige Murray, who recently took on the role of director of development at Disney+ Canada, expressed her excitement about the new projects, emphasizing the diverse talent pool in Canada. She stated, “This demonstrates our deep commitment to local content, investing in stories that will resonate with audiences both here in Canada and around the world.”

This development comes after Disney+ launched in Canada in 2019 without any original programming from the country, relying solely on imports. These two new series are a step towards expanding Disney+’s content offerings and providing more representation for Canadian stories. The announcement follows Canada’s decision to backtrack on plans to increase global streamer contributions from 5% to 15% of local revenue.
