Netflix MLB Opening Night Plans: What to Expect

Netflix is gearing up to make a big entrance into the MLB world on Opening Night, and it seems like they’re planning something pretty grand.

Word has it that Netflix has an interesting stunt in store for the upcoming game between the Giants and Yankees on March 25. They’re reportedly going to have 73 red kayaks line up in McCovey Cove behind Oracle Park’s right field wall. It’s all an homage to Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home run season in 2001 when he hit 73 home runs, with nine of them reaching the bay. Even though Bonds played for the Giants for just seven seasons at the park, a whopping 35 out of the 108 splash hits ever hit by a Giant were his.

In the broadcast for the game, we know that Matt Vasgersian will do the play-by-play, and former players Hunter Pence and CC Sabathia will be the color analysts for the Giants and Yankees, respectively. Joining them are Elle Duncan as the on-site host, Albert Pujols as a commentator, Anthony Rizzo as a commentator, Lauren Shehadi reporting from the field, and Bert Kreischer doing what he does best.

And for fans attending the game, Netflix is planning something cool—a pop-up bullpen where you can test your pitching skills. The red-branded kayaks will also be available for fans to use out in the cove.

McCovey Cove will be in the spotlight during Netflix’s MLB debut. It’s going to be interesting to see if they can make a big splash, but the dimensions and the weather might make it a bit challenging. Regardless, it’s all in good fun, and it’s great to see Netflix diving into the baseball world with such enthusiasm.
