$506M Superhero Sequel Streaming Hit on Disney+: Not in the MCU

Disney+ right now. What’s even more surprising is that this movie is not part of the MCU. In fact, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is outperforming many other Marvel movies currently available on the streaming platform. According to FlixPatrol, it’s holding the second-place spot on the most-watched list. The only other Marvel movie in the Top 10 is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, coming in at number seven. TRON: Ares, a box office flop, is actually the top movie on Disney+ at the moment, showing that streaming can breathe new life into films that may have struggled in theaters.

It’s worth noting that Disney+ offers a wide range of Marvel content, not just MCU films. They have movies and TV shows from before the MCU era, as well as properties acquired from Fox, like the older X-Men and Fantastic Four films. Additionally, there are movies from the Sony Marvel world available on the platform.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been a hit with fans, despite receiving mixed reviews. The film generated $478.9 million at the box office, coming in slightly lower than its predecessor. However, it still stands as one of the most successful Sony Marvel films following the studio’s collaboration with Marvel on Spider-Man. Despite the critical reception, audience scores for Venom: Let There Be Carnage were more favorable, reaching 79%.

Streaming services like Disney+, Netflix, and HBO Max have become a lifeline for movies that may not have performed well in theaters. They offer viewers a chance to watch films at their convenience and often lead to a resurgence in popularity for certain titles.
