Disney+ Embraces Microcontent Strategy in 2026

Disney is jumping on the microcontent bandwagon and gearing up to bring short bursts of entertainment to Disney+ in 2026. This move comes as more traditional media companies are trying to capture the attention of younger audiences who are used to quick-hit content like Tik Toks and Reels.

This initiative follows Disney’s previous experiment with “verts” on its ESPN streaming app, which featured short video vignettes highlighting game moments, commentary, and analysis from sports personalities. Users have more control over what they watch, with the ability to scroll or swipe through tailored content based on their interests.

Disney plans to expand short-form videos to cover both news and entertainment, hoping to make Disney+ a go-to destination for daily updates. In 2025, ABC News launched a short-form show on Disney+ called “What You Need to Know,” hosted by Rachel Scott or James Longman on weekdays.

Other companies, like Procter & Gamble, are also getting in on the action with projects like “The Golden Pear Affair,” a 50-episode “microsoap.” It’s clear that the future of content is trending towards bite-sized, easily digestible pieces, and Disney wants to make sure it stays ahead of the curve.
