The Legend of Aang: ATLA Officially Premieres as a Paramount+ Exclusive

Paramount+ has made the decision to release The Legend of Aang: Avatar The Last Airbender animated movie exclusively on their streaming service, skipping a theatrical run. While this news may be disappointing to fans who were looking forward to seeing it on the big screen, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited about this release.

The movie is set to premiere sometime in the Fall of 2026 on Paramount+, and the cast is full of talented actors, including Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun. There have also been recent additions to the cast, such as Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan.

Directed by Lauren Montgomery, with Steve Ahn and William Mata serving as co-directors, the movie will follow the adult versions of the original series’ cast as they embark on a global adventure to find an ancient power that could save their culture from extinction. The score will be provided by series composer Jeremy Zuckerman.

In addition to the animated movie, Paramount+ will also be the home of the upcoming 2D series Avatar: Seven Havens from Avatar Studios, which is set to debut in 2027. The story will center around a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra, but in a world on the brink of collapse, being the Avatar may mark her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior.

As a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am eagerly looking forward to both The Legend of Aang movie and Avatar: Seven Havens series. While it’s unfortunate that the movie won’t have a theatrical release, I’m excited to see how these new stories will expand on the beloved world created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.
