Paramount switches to streaming release for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

Big news for Avatar fans! Paramount has decided to skip the theatrical release for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and will release it exclusively on Paramount+ instead. This decision also includes bringing original series Avatar: Seven Havens to the platform.

The much-anticipated animated movie was originally scheduled to hit theaters on October 9, 2026. But now, Avatar Studios content, including The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven Havens, will be available only on Paramount+.

Many fans are surprised by this move, especially after the massive success of anime films in 2025. For example, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle made a staggering $774 million at the global box office.

The star-studded cast of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender includes Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun, known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Invincible.

The story of Avatar Aang follows his quest to save his culture from extinction by harnessing an ancient power. Alongside his friends, he travels the world to prevent this power from falling into the wrong hands.

Avatar: Seven Havens tells the tale of a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar. In a dangerous era, she must navigate threats from human and spirit enemies to save the Seven Havens and uncover her mysterious origins.

The original Avatar series, including The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender, is already a hit on Paramount+, with strong streaming numbers since its debut in March 2023.
