Disney Cancels Popular Marvel Assembled Documentary: New Report Details

Disney recently made the tough decision to cancel the documentary series Marvel Studios: Assembled on Disney+. The show was a hit with fans, offering behind-the-scenes looks at the movies and TV shows in the Multiverse Saga. It kicked off in March 2021 with an episode dedicated to “The Making of WandaVision.” Subsequent episodes covered a variety of Phase 4 releases like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, Black Widow, and more. Even Phase 5 projects like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were set to have specials. However, as of 2025, no new episodes have been released, and the series was officially axed in June.

According to an in-depth report by The DisInsider, the cancellation wasn’t due to backlash from viewers but rather financial reasons. Every minute of content on Disney+ comes with a cost, even for a documentary. When Disney looked at the numbers, the viewership for Assembled episodes didn’t justify the expenses. Additionally, management made the documentary for Agatha All Along available for free on YouTube, indicating a shift in priorities.

While Disney is focused on cutting streaming costs, it’s disappointing to see Assembled go. The “making-of” featurettes included in digital and Blu-ray releases are usually short, making the documentary series a valuable resource for fans wanting deeper insights into the creative process behind their favorite Marvel content. Marvel Studios might be glad to have one less task on their plate, especially given their focus on producing quality content over quantity.

Hopefully, we’ll still get a peek behind the scenes of future Marvel projects, even if not through Assembled. The show provided a unique perspective on the hard work and creativity that goes into making the MCU magic happen.
