Disney+ Aquamarine Reboot: Extending Pilot Strategy

Disney+ is bringing back a fan favorite with a new young adult drama series based on the 2006 film “Aquamarine.” The original film’s star, Emma Roberts, is set to make a guest appearance in the series. The show has been given the green light for a pilot by Disney Channel and the US-based streamer, Disney+.

The pilot is being written by Sarah Watson, known for her work on “The Bold Type.” Elizabeth Alen Rosenbaum, the director of “Pretty Little Liars,” will direct and executive produce the series alongside Susan Cartsonis, who also worked on the original film. Roberts will reprise her role as Claire Brown and serve as an executive producer as well.

The storyline will follow a girl who moves to a seaside town and discovers that her missing mother was actually a mermaid. The 2006 film, which was based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name, may not have been a huge success at the box office, but it has gained a loyal following over the years and become a cult classic. While the original writers are not involved in the series pilot, the new show is sure to capture the spirit of the beloved film.

Disney has been investing in new pilots lately, with other projects in the pipeline like “Coven Academy,” “Eerie Elementary,” and “Witch Mountain.” Fans of the original “Aquamarine” film and newcomers alike will have something to look forward to with this exciting adaptation coming to Disney+ soon.
