Emma Roberts Stars in New Disney+ Series ‘Aquamarine’ on Kiss 95.1 Charlotte

Emma Roberts is making a splash by returning to the beach where her career began nearly 20 years ago in the fan-favorite movie Aquamarine. This time, she’s not just stepping in front of the camera—she’s also taking on a role behind the scenes.

Roberts is set to guest star as Claire Brown and executive produce a new TV adaptation of the teen comedy that originally hit screens in 2006. The series, which has received a pilot order from Disney+ and Disney Channel, promises to bring a fresh take on the beloved story.

In this new version, titled “Aquamarine,” viewers will follow Coral, a teenager who unravels the mystery of her mother’s disappearance and discovers she comes from a lineage of mermaids. As Coral navigates her newfound magical powers, she must also confront the hidden dangers lurking beneath the waves.

Joining Roberts in the revival is the original movie’s director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, who will be back to helm the series as both director and executive producer. The show is penned by Sarah Watson, with Susan Cartsonis also on board as an executive producer.

Based on Alice Hoffman’s 2001 children’s novel, the original Aquamarine starred Roberts alongside actresses JoJo and Sara Paxton. For Roberts, the new series marks a full-circle moment in her career, revisiting one of her earliest roles that continues to resonate with audiences.

In a recent interview, Roberts expressed her excitement about revisiting Aquamarine, especially after seeing the film’s resurgence on social media platforms like TikTok. The actress shared her amazement at the enduring popularity of the movie and hinted at the possibility of an Aquamarine sequel.

While Roberts is gearing up for her return, Sara Paxton, who portrayed the mermaid in the original film, still holds on to a special memento from the set—the starfish earrings her character wore. Although the cast doesn’t get to see each other often due to their busy lives, Paxton maintains a fondness for her Aquamarine co-stars and looks forward to potential reunions in the future.

As the new Aquamarine series prepares to enchant a whole new generation of viewers, fans can look forward to diving back into the magical world that captured their hearts two decades ago. Emma Roberts’ journey from teen movie star to executive producer illuminates the enduring power and joy of storytelling in Hollywood.
