Emma Roberts Returns for ‘Aquamarine’ TV Reboot Pilot Filming in Wilmington

A new TV pilot based on the 2006 teen film “Aquamarine” is set to film in Wilmington, and it’s got fans buzzing! Disney+ and Disney Channel are behind this exciting project, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Even better, the original star of the movie, Emma Roberts, is making a comeback as Claire Brown in the pilot and will also be an executive producer.

The director of the original film, Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, will be at the helm of the pilot, with Sarah Watson, creator of “The Bold Type,” penning the script. The story follows a teenager named Coral who moves to a coastal town and embarks on a quest to uncover the mystery surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As Coral delves deeper, she discovers her mother’s mermaid secret, unleashing magical abilities as she faces hidden dangers lurking beneath the waves.

The 2006 film was a hit, starring Roberts alongside Joanna “JoJo” Levesque, Sara Paxton, Jake McDorman, and Arielle Kebbel. In the original story, two friends befriend a mermaid in a pool, helping her navigate love to escape an arranged marriage.
