“Cuse discusses failed Hulu reboot of Hitchhiker’s – Dark Horizons”

Before the pandemic hit, Hulu was working on a TV series adaptation of the classic sci-fi comedy novel series “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. Carlton Cuse and Jason Fuchs were set to write, executive produce, and showrun the series for ABC Signature. However, the project hit a roadblock and never came to fruition.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Emmy winner Carlton Cuse shared that the main challenge was cracking the story for modern audiences. He explained that the writer’s room struggled to find a way to make it work, ultimately leading to the project’s demise. Despite the setback, Cuse reflected on the experience as a fun deep dive into the beloved story and its world.

For those unfamiliar, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” began as a radio series before evolving into a series of five novels following the adventures of Englishman Arthur Dent in outer space. The property was previously adapted for UK television in 1981 and as a feature film in 2005.

Unfortunately, it seems like fans will have to wait a bit longer for a new adaptation of this beloved series. But for those who love the quirky humor and intergalactic escapades of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” the wait might just make the eventual release even more exciting.
