Armie Hammer comeback movie secures global distribution
Armie Hammer’s highly-anticipated comeback in the movie “Citizen Vigilante” has secured worldwide distribution with Quiver Distribution snagging the rights. Although the film won’t be shown in the U.K., German-speaking territories, South Korea, and Taiwan, fans around the world will still have the chance to watch it.
Director Uwe Boll’s film has sparked controversy due to its extreme violence and anti-immigrant messaging, leading Germany to ban its screening. Despite facing backlash, Hammer’s return to the big screen after a five-year break is generating buzz.
In the movie, Hammer portrays a wealthy American businessman living in Croatia who decides to take matters into his own hands to combat violent crime committed by immigrants. This role marks a significant moment in his career after facing serious accusations in 2021, which he has consistently denied.
Amidst mixed reviews and criticism, tech mogul Elon Musk publicly supported the film by sharing it on X, allowing users to watch it for free for 48 hours. Musk’s endorsement led to the film becoming the number one purchased title on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.
Quiver Distribution, which already has the North American rights to the movie, gave it a limited theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada on June 19. Boll shared that Musk personally reached out to his team to request permission to stream the film for free on X.
While the movie has sparked debates due to its controversial themes, Boll remains steadfast in his defense, stating, “I’m not a Nazi.” Despite the criticisms, he remains optimistic about the film’s success and even discussed potential sequels, hinting at new adventures for Hammer’s character, Sanders.
