UFC White House Event Draws 34M Global Viewers
UFC recently shared some exciting news about their Freedom 250 event at the White House South Lawn on June 14. With an estimated 34 million viewers globally, this event broke records for the mixed-martial arts promotion. Although these numbers fell short of the anticipated “Super Bowl–type” audience, they are still historic for UFC.
The global viewership data includes countries like Australia, China, India, South Korea, New Zealand, and the U.K., in addition to the previously reported 17 million viewers in the U.S. and Latin America. UFC mentioned that this figure is part of the standard reporting process from international broadcasters, and additional revisions may come as more countries, like Spain and France, report their viewership numbers in a few weeks.
Freedom 250 set several significant milestones for UFC, such as an average audience of 7 million viewers in the U.S., making it their most-watched domestic event to date. Additionally, the event attracted 17 million viewers in the U.S. and Latin America, marking the largest exclusive live event for Paramount+ streaming service. Paramount+ also highlighted that Freedom 250 became their most-watched live event replay ever.
Leading up to the event, there were more than 126 billion views on social media globally, showing UFC’s largest-ever exposure on these platforms. UFC President Dana White had high hopes for the event, comparing its potential audience to that of the Super Bowl. While the event garnered widespread coverage, the average audience of 125.6 million for Super Bowl LX in February far exceeded White’s expectations.
Regarding future events, White mentioned that a repeat of Freedom 250 is unlikely due to financial constraints. UFC anticipated losing $30 million on the event, only recouping half of the $60 million it cost to produce. Despite the financial outcome, the success and reach of Freedom 250 have solidified UFC’s position as a powerhouse in the world of sports and entertainment.
