Conan Animated Series in Development by Genndy Tartakovsky for Prime Video

It’s official, folks! Genndy Tartakovsky, the genius behind Primal and Samurai Jack, is teaming up with Cartoon Network Studios and Prime Video to bring us an animated series based on Conan the Barbarian. The big announcement was made during Prime Video’s presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and we couldn’t be more excited.

The show’s synopsis gives us a taste of what’s to come: “After finding love in the pirate queen, Bêlit, a battle-hardened Conan defies gods, fate, and even death to save her from a dark sorcery that threatens to destroy everything.” Sounds epic, right?

This project has been a long time coming, with Tartakovsky first pitching the idea back in 2008. Now, with Prime Video on board, it’s finally happening. While we’re all eager to see some footage, we’ll have to be patient. Tartakovsky himself joked about the early stages of production, saying we might get a peek at some animatics in 2027 and rough animation in 2028 (fingers crossed that’s just a joke).

Tartakovsky will be steering the ship as the showrunner and executive producer, alongside Darrick Bachman, Fred Malmberg, and Mark Wheeler. This animated series comes at the perfect time, just four years before Conan’s 100th anniversary. With Tartakovsky at the helm, we can’t wait to see how this classic character comes to life on our screens.
