New Batman Animated Series and Krypto Kids Show Revealed, Dark Shadows Rebooted

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival brought exciting news to animation fans this week, with several big projects announced!

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation took to social media to reveal two new Batman animated series in the works. One is an Absolute Batman adult animated series, executive produced by Scott Snyder and based on the popular comic book series. The other is a Joker: Laugh Riot series directed by Yashuhuro Aoki, set in a world where Batman has been murdered, and Joker seeks revenge. Additionally, a new trailer for the Batman: Knightfall trilogy of animated movies was released.

Warner Bros. Animation didn’t stop there and announced more projects in the pipeline. C.H. Greenblatt is set to executive produce an untitled Krypto kids project, featuring Superman’s loyal dog on adventures with a group of misfit criminal wannabes. The Hollywood Reporter shared news of a Dark Shadows animated series in development, continuing the gothic horror saga of the Collins family. And fans were thrilled by a teaser sizzle reel hinting at a new ThunderCats animated project on the horizon.

The talented Genndy Tartakovsky, known for Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory, is working on a Conan: The Barbarian: Queen of the Black Coast animated series for Prime Video. This series, based on a 1934 short story by Robert E. Howard, follows Conan as a pirate fighting alongside the infamous pirate queen Belit. With executive producers Darrick Bachman, Fredrik Malmberg, and Mark Wheeler on board, this promises to be a thrilling adventure.

HBO Max is not to be left out, as they’ve ordered a 10-episode Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline series, building on the success of previous Adventure Time spinoffs. And a new trailer for President Curtis, a Rick and Morty spinoff series focusing on the satirical U.S. President, is set to start streaming on July 26, 2026.

In other news, Supergirl didn’t perform as expected in its opening weekend, with disappointing box office numbers and harsh reviews. This setback marks a challenge for the DC films under the James Gunn era.

Exciting times are ahead for animation and streaming entertainment fans, with a wide range of new projects and series to look forward to!
