Jorge Gutiérrez Leaves Amazon AI Program
Amazon Prime Video’s GenAI Creators’ Fund is making headlines with its first creator dropout. Director Jorge Gutiérrez, known for Maya And The Three and The Book Of Life, was set to lead the animated show Punky Duck for the program but has decided to step away. In a heartfelt post on X, the Everything App, he expressed regret and offered a promise to do better in the future.
Gutiérrez’s decision comes after facing criticism from social media followers and reflecting on the use of AI in the animation industry. Despite initial intentions to showcase artists of all backgrounds with this new technology, Gutiérrez ultimately felt it was best to distance himself from the project.
It’s interesting to note that Gutiérrez has been vocal about his concerns regarding AI in the animation industry in the past. His views on the potential impact of AI on creating original content have been well-documented.
As for the fate of Punky Duck, the lovable punk duck and his friend Smiley Cat will have to wait for another creator to bring their story to life. The series remains in limbo following Gutiérrez’s departure.
