Tom Hardy to Depart ‘MobLand’ After Season 2 as Paramount+ Series Gears Up for Next Season

Tom Hardy is saying goodbye to “MobLand” after Season 2, as the Paramount+ drama series gears up for a possible Season 3. According to reports from Deadline, a writers room for Season 3 is already in the works, but Tom Hardy won’t be a part of it. Despite completing production on Season 2, Hardy will not be returning to the show due to tensions with the series’ writer, executive producer, and showrunner Jez Butterworth.

Friction between Hardy and Butterworth reportedly arose due to Hardy’s chronic lateness to set and disagreements over the direction of the show. According to sources, Hardy felt the series, initially centered around him, was transitioning into an ensemble piece, which led to clashes with Butterworth. Hardy was frequently asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed displeasure at the focus shifting away from his character. This ultimately led to Butterworth threatening to quit.

In response to the situation, Paramount made the decision to drop Hardy from the show, despite his contract including a mutual option for the third season. Representatives for Hardy and Paramount declined to comment on the matter.

“MobLand” stars Hardy alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The series revolves around two mob families embroiled in a war that puts empires and lives at risk.
