2026 Kentucky Derby Results: Winner, Payouts, Highlights, and Order of Finish

Golden Tempo made history by winning the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs over the weekend. Trained by Cherie DeVaux and ridden by Jose Ortiz, the colt defied the odds and crossed the finish line first in a thrilling race.

DeVaux’s victory marks a significant milestone, as she is now the first female trainer to win the prestigious Kentucky Derby. Ortiz also joined an elite group of jockeys by clinching wins in both the Kentucky Oaks and Derby in the same year.

With a total purse of $5 million, Golden Tempo secured a winner’s portion of $3.1 million for the impressive feat. Despite trailing initially, the colt staged a remarkable comeback down the stretch, capturing the hearts of racing enthusiasts worldwide.

Unfortunately, several horses were scratched from the race, including Corona de Oro, Silent Tactic, Fullefort, Right to Party, The Puma, and Great White. Great White’s withdrawal came after a gate incident, reducing the field to 18 competitors.

Looking ahead, Golden Tempo may aim for the second leg of the Triple Crown at the Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Laurel Park. Subsequently, the Belmont Stakes are scheduled for June 6 in Saratoga, offering another opportunity for the talented colt to showcase his racing prowess.
