New CEO of Disney Plans ‘Super App’ for Theme Park Tickets and Movies
Walt Disney Co. has something exciting up its sleeve! Rumor has it that the company’s considering creating a one-stop digital hub for all things Disney. Imagine a world where you could book park tickets, snag sweet merch, play games, and binge-watch movies all in one place. Sounds awesome, right?
Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s new CEO, is on a mission to streamline the way we interact with Disney. He’s thinking of blending Disney+ with other mobile apps like the ones for Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line Navigator. This potential “super app” is still in the early brainstorming phase, but D’Amaro sees it as a game-changer for giving customers a unified Disney experience.
While Disney hasn’t spilled the beans officially, word on the street is that they’ve mulled over this super app concept before. Previous Disney bigwig Bob Iger even dabbled in a pilot version over in the UK many moons ago. Integrating all the Disney apps has hit some snags in the past, though, especially when it comes to techie stuff and rights to content.
But D’Amaro isn’t easily discouraged. He’s gung-ho about making this super app dream a reality. He’s even mentioned at shareholder meetings that he wants Disney+ to be more than just a streaming service. He envisions it as a digital hub connecting all things Disney—stories, games, movies, you name it.
D’Amaro’s got his sights set on shaking things up at Disney. As a board observer at Epic Games, the mastermind behind Fortnite, he’s looking to bring games and entertainment closer together under the Disney umbrella. Plus, Disney’s exploring cool new stuff like user-generated content and artificial intelligence.
Unfortunately, not all Disney dreams come true. There was a bit of a hiccup when a tech company called OpenAI pulled the plug on a billion-dollar deal Disney had in the works. It seems this deal would’ve brought users a boatload of characters and the ability to create their own content for Disney+. Bummer.
We’ll have to see how all these ideas pan out when Disney reports its first earnings with D’Amaro at the helm on May 6th. Exciting times ahead for Disney fans!
