Disney+ Secures Live-Action ‘Casper’ Series in Competitive Bidding War
Disney+ has some exciting news for fans of Casper the Friendly Ghost! The streaming service has won the rights to a live-action Casper series after a fierce bidding war. The project will be led by Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, who you may recognize from Disney+’s Goosebumps series. And here’s a fun fact – Steven Spielberg, who was an executive producer on the 1995 Casper movie starring Christina Ricci, is also on board for this new series.
Letterman will be wearing many hats for this project, taking on directing, executive producing, and writing duties. Meanwhile, Winston will handle the writing and executive producing aspects. As for the series itself, it’s being described as a “modern update on the classic ghost story.” Unfortunately, we don’t have any additional details to share just yet.
Now, the burning question on everyone’s mind – could Christina Ricci make an appearance in the new series? We’ll have to wait and see! Fans will remember her iconic role in 1991’s The Addams Family and her recent involvement in Netflix’s Wednesday series.
Interestingly, there was a previous announcement about a Casper live-action series for Peacock back in 2022, but we’re not sure if that’s related to this new Disney+ project. Looks like we’ll just have to stay tuned for more updates!
