Disney+ Secures Rights for Live-Action Casper Series

Exciting news for fans of Casper the Friendly Ghost! Disney+ has won a bidding war to develop a brand new live-action series based on the beloved character. Amber Brockman, vice president of publicity for Disney branded television and freeform, confirmed the project via email, revealing that the series is a modern take on the classic ghost story.

While no casting announcements have been made yet for the new series, there is speculation about whether stars from the 1995 film could make a return. The movie followed teenager Kat Harvey and her father, paranormal therapist Dr. James Harvey, as they venture into a haunted mansion, with Casper voiced by Malachi Pearson.

This new adaptation is set to breathe new life into one of pop culture’s most iconic supernatural characters, who first captured hearts through animated shorts, comic books, and the 1995 hit movie.

Disney+ secured the project after a competitive bidding war, with iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg attached as an executive producer. The series will be led by Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, the creative minds behind the Disney+ supernatural series, Goosebumps. Letterman, known for his work on projects like Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, will also direct the new series.

So get ready for some ghostly fun as Casper the Friendly Ghost makes his way to Disney+ in this exciting new series!
