Marvel’s Wonder Man Originated as a Joke Pitch Before Succeeding on Disney+

Wonder Man, a Marvel Cinematic Universe show on Disney+, started as a joke pitch before becoming a successful series. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton originally saw potential in the character Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley, from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi. Cretton’s love for the character led to the idea of “Trevor Goes To Hollywood,” a funny pitch that caught the attention of Marvel producers.

The show focuses on Simon Williams and Trevor as they pursue acting careers in Hollywood, putting superpowers on the back burner for a more human-centered story. Despite its unique approach, Wonder Man secured a Season 2 renewal on Disney+, joining the ranks of successful MCU shows. The combination of the joke pitch and Marvel’s interest in Wonder Man resulted in the series we now enjoy.

According to executive producer Andrew Guest, Wonder Man was a creative risk for Marvel that paid off. The show’s success is attributed to the dedication and belief of those involved in the project.
