Why Menopause Retreats Are Trending in Wellness Travel

More than 1 million women in the United States experience menopause each year, says the National Institute on Aging. With growing awareness of hormonal health, many women are seeking support. Shortages of estrogen patches and other hormone therapies have led some to look for alternatives, according to NPR.

Menopause used to be a hush-hush topic, but it’s now in the spotlight. It’s popping up in podcasts, social media, and TV shows like Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV+. This visibility has sparked a new trend in travel: menopause-focused wellness retreats. These experiences offer education, stress management, and programs that take hormones into account to support women through perimenopause and menopause.

For a lot of women, navigating menopause can be isolating and confusing. Symptoms can range from sleep issues to mood swings, and seeking care can sometimes lead to feeling dismissed. That’s why many women are turning to wellness retreats and workshops for practical tools and support from others going through the same experience.

Karen Basket, an Ayurvedic practitioner leading The Belize Collection’s Gather & Glow wellness series, has noticed a rising interest in guidance on hormonal health. “More women are talking openly about hormone health, but many still aren’t sure what steps to take,” Basket said. “When women learn how their bodies work and realize what they’re going through isn’t random, it can really change everything.”

Menopause travel is part of the broader trend in wellness tourism. Travelers are looking for more than just relaxation. They want experiences that focus on longevity and overall well-being, moving beyond traditional spa vacations.
