Disney+ Developing Reboot of Popular Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show
ith his success on the big screen, Coogler is now venturing into the world of TV. After executive producing the miniseries Eyes of Wakanda, he’s now working on a reboot of The X-Files, which has cast Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel to star. But that’s not all – Coogler is also involved in a new project that fans of ’90s nostalgia will love.
Variety reports that Coogler, through his company Proximity Media, is set to be an executive producer for an Animorphs TV series in early development for Disney+. The show is based on the popular series of Scholastic books that ran from 1996-2001. If you remember the books, you’ll be excited to know that the show will follow a group of teenagers who discover a hidden threat beneath their everyday lives, all while dealing with the challenges of high school.
This news comes at an interesting time for Disney+, as they look to expand their offerings beyond Marvel and Star Wars content. Animorphs, with its sci-fi and young adult themes, could be a perfect addition to the streaming service’s lineup. With 54 mainline books to draw from, there’s plenty of material for multiple seasons of the show.
It’s worth noting that the Animorphs series is still in early development, so there’s more work to be done before it gets the green light. But with Coogler’s talent and vision, the show is off to a promising start. As a fan of his previous work, it’s exciting to see what he’ll bring to the world of Animorphs. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new project!
