Disney+ and RTVE Agree on Next-Day Window Deal for Spanish Content
Disney+ has just struck a deal with RTVE, the Spanish broadcaster, to bring some of their top shows to the streaming platform right after they air on TV. This means that viewers in Spain can catch up on their favorite RTVE programs on Disney+ almost immediately after they premiere on linear television starting on March 31st.
The first show to kick off this partnership is MasterChef, a beloved cooking competition series. Season 14 with 13 episodes and MasterChef Celebrity season 11 with 12 episodes will be available on Disney+ after they air on La 1. And it’s not just reality TV – scripted content like Rojo Sobre Blanco, produced by Good Mood (Mediawan), will also be part of the lineup with more titles to come.
For RTVE, this collaboration means reaching a wider audience, especially younger viewers. And for Disney+, it’s a chance to beef up its local content offerings with popular Spanish programming. Karl Holmes, General Manager of Disney+ EMEA, is excited about the deal, saying it will bring some of RTVE’s most iconic new shows to the platform.
This agreement is a big move in the European streaming world, focusing on making current public broadcaster content available next-day on Disney+ – a shift towards closer ties between TV networks and streaming services. It’s all part of Disney+’s strategy to invest in local production and meet European content regulations in order to grow its subscriber base in competitive markets.
So, get ready to binge-watch your favorite RTVE shows on Disney+ right after they air – it’s the best of both worlds for Spanish TV fans!
