The Punisher Special Presentation Runtime and Daredevil Crossover

A recent WGA listing spilled the beans on the runtime for The Punisher Special Presentation, while showrunner Dario Scardapane has hinted at a connection to Frank Castle in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Set to debut on Disney+ this summer, The Punisher Special bridges the gap between Frank Castle’s time in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 and his upcoming adventures in July’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With production wrapping last year, set photos have already teased a clash between the vigilante and Ma Gnucci’s family, drawing inspiration from the beloved “Welcome Back, Frank” comic arc from 2000.

While most of the specifics about the special have been kept under wraps, the official Writers Guild of America listing confirms that Jon Bernthal and Reinaldo Marcus Green are the credited writers and that the runtime for The Punisher Special Presentation is set for 60 minutes. This runtime stands out as the lengthiest among the Specials released so far, exceeding Werewolf by Night at 53 minutes and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special at 42 minutes.

Despite hopes from fans for a Punisher appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Scardapane revealed that Frank Castle won’t make an appearance, but he will be referenced. An intriguing nod to the weirdest weapons used by Bullseye was teased in the diner sequence of the show, with a humorous homage to a lobster that wasn’t part of the comics but was inspired during a real diner visit.

Scardapane also expressed his enthusiasm for a future Punisher vs. Bullseye showdown, a dream he shares with many comic fans. Even though this particular matchup didn’t make it into the current season, Scardapane hinted at a possible confrontation down the line. Bernthal, on the other hand, promised fans a high-energy Punisher experience, emphasizing the seamless transition between Spider-Man and The Punisher special sets.

Excited for The Punisher Special Presentation’s summer premiere on Disney+, it’s clear that fans can expect a unique addition to Frank Castle’s MCU journey.
