Amazon Prime Video Ad-Free Tier Price Increase: Cost Details Revealed
Amazon has some news for its Prime Video subscribers. Big changes are coming to the ad-free tier. Previously $2.99 a month, this tier will soon cost $4.99 monthly. But before you worry about the price hike, let’s take a look at what you’ll be getting.
Now known as Prime Video Ultra, this revamped tier will bring some exciting features. With Prime Video Ultra, you’ll have the ability to stream on up to five devices at once, enjoy 100 downloads, and get exclusive access to 4K and UHD streaming. Sounds pretty sweet, right?
But here’s the catch, starting April 10th, the updated price will kick in. However, for Prime members considering a switch, there’s an annual plan available for $45.99. That’s about a 23% discount compared to the monthly rate. So, if you’re in it for the long run, this might be a good deal.
It’s important to note that Prime Video Ultra is only available in the US. Amazon clarified that Prime members will still enjoy Prime Video on top of their regular subscription at no extra cost. Speaking of the regular tier, with ads included, it doesn’t offer as much as Ultra. Less downloads, fewer streams, and no UHD or 4K streaming. So, you really are getting an upgrade with Prime Video Ultra.
Some background: Amazon added ads to its platform back in 2024. Since then, the company has seen a rise in viewership. In fact, according to CNBC, the latest earnings report showed Amazon had a whopping 315 million globally – up from 200 million in April 2024. That’s a lot of eyes on their content.
In a statement, Amazon emphasized that providing ad-free streaming with premium features requires some major investment. And well, it seems like they’re doubling down on making your streaming experience even better.
