Iron Family Documentary Set to Release on March 16
“Iron Family,” featuring Iron River local Jazmine Faries, is set to be released on March 16, just ahead of World Down Syndrome Day. The documentary, which earned the prestigious 2022 Slamdance Audience Award, centers around Jazmine, a 32-year-old with Down Syndrome, who is passionate about soap operas, Barbie dolls, and Matthew McConaughey. For the past five summers, her family has performed her original plays in their hometown of Iron River.
The film delves into Jazmine’s creative process as she writes, practices, and readies herself for the stage, showcasing her journey towards independence, her desire for love, and how one person’s imagination can unite an entire community. Chad Faries, Jazmine’s brother and a co-producer of the documentary, plays a prominent role in the film. Chad, now a professor at Savannah State University, stars alongside Jazmine in their heartwarming story.
World Down Syndrome Day, observed annually on March 21, seeks to raise awareness about Down Syndrome, advocating for the rights, inclusion, and overall well-being of individuals with the condition. The date holds significance as it points to the genetic cause of Down Syndrome—an extra copy of chromosome 21, known as trisomy 21.
Starting March 16, “Iron Family” will be available for rent or purchase on various major platforms, including Amazon and Apple TV+. Get ready to be inspired by Jazmine’s incredible journey by tuning in to the heartwarming documentary when it premieres.
