Hulu Shutting Down in 2026: Recent Updates on Closure Date
Hulu fans, get ready for some big changes ahead! In a move that has been anticipated for a while now, Hulu is merging with Disney+ and will no longer exist as a standalone app by 2026. Exciting news, right? But when exactly will this transition begin? Well, recent updates from big players like Nintendo and the popular show Percy Jackson and the Olympians may give us some hints.
The announcement of the Disney+ and Hulu app integration came straight from the Walt Disney Co. during an earnings call back in August 2025. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that they would be creating a “unified app experience” by bringing together both streaming platforms onto Disney+. As of October 2025, all of Hulu’s content is already on Disney+ (with some titles making the move earlier than that). While Hulu will continue to exist as a standalone service for now, it will eventually only be available through Disney+.
As for the exact shutdown date of the Hulu solo app, it’s confirmed for 2026, but the specifics are still up in the air. However, there are a couple of signs that this change may happen sooner rather than later. Nintendo, for example, announced in January that the Hulu app will no longer be available on their Switch system starting on February 5, 2026.
And here’s another clue: the show Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is currently available on both Disney+ and Hulu, will be leaving Hulu on March 4, 2026. After that date, you’ll only be able to watch it through a Disney+ subscription.
But don’t worry about your Hulu subscription! According to a Disney representative, subscribers will still have the option to subscribe to Hulu as a standalone service even after the apps are merged into one, in addition to having a standalone Disney+ subscription.
Exciting times are ahead for streaming entertainment, so stay tuned for more updates!
