Hulu Shutdown in 2026: Updates suggest imminent closure

Hulu is on its way out, with plans to merge into Disney+ during 2026. If you’re wondering when exactly this transition will happen, recent updates from companies like Nintendo and the Percy Jackson series might give you a clue.

The big announcement about Disney+ absorbing Hulu was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger during an earnings call back in August 2025. The plan is to combine the two streaming services into one unified app experience on Disney+. As of October 2025, all of Hulu’s content has already made its way onto Disney+, although the process started earlier with select titles. While Hulu will continue to exist on its own for a little while, it will eventually only be accessible through Disney+.

Although there isn’t a specific date set for the shutdown of the Hulu app, we know it’s happening at some point in 2026. There are a few signs indicating that things might start moving in that direction fairly soon. For example, Nintendo recently announced that the Hulu app will no longer be available on the Nintendo Switch starting from February 5, 2026.

In addition, the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been released on Disney+ and Hulu. While both seasons are currently on Hulu, they will exit the platform on March 4, 2026, making them exclusive to Disney+ thereafter. The Percy Jackson series Instagram account has been updating fans about this change throughout Season 2 and after the finale.

As for Hulu subscriptions, a Disney representative mentioned to Variety that current subscribers will still have the option to sign up for Hulu as a standalone service once the apps are consolidated, as well as the option for a standalone Disney+ subscription.

The future of Hulu is evolving, and changes are on the horizon. Stay tuned to see how things unfold, but don’t worry too much about your viewing options – there will still be plenty of ways to catch your favorite shows and movies even after Hulu says farewell.
