Alabama Shakespeare Festival Sensory-Friendly “Frozen” Performance
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival recently offered a special sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s “Frozen.” This unique show was designed to support individuals with sensory processing challenges. To make the experience more inclusive, staff received training from the non-profit organization KultureCity on sensory modifications, such as keeping the house lights on, minimizing loud sound effects, and providing quiet spaces.
Caroline Sease, the development director for KultureCity, emphasized the importance of ensuring that individuals with sensory needs can fully enjoy life experiences. She highlighted the significance of reaching out to this audience and providing them with opportunities to engage in cultural events. Quin Gresham, the Artistic Director of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, expressed excitement about reintroducing this initiative after a few years, underscoring the organization’s commitment to inclusivity.
Moving forward, ASF plans to implement sensory-inclusive practices for all future performances, building on the success of this inclusive “Frozen” show. This effort reflects the organization’s dedication to creating welcoming and accessible entertainment experiences for everyone.
