Portland Police Seek Information on Deadly Convenience Store Shooting, Victim Identified
The community of Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood is coming together to support the family of Santi Ram Rai, a 33-year-old man tragically killed in a convenience store shooting. Ram Rai, a beloved member of the Nepalese community, was known for his dedication to helping newcomers navigate life in the city.
On December 9th, while working alone at the convenience store on 139th and Mill St. SE, a burglary turned deadly, leaving Ram Rai fatally wounded. The Portland Police are still on the search for the person or persons responsible for this senseless act. Ram Rai leaves behind a wife and two young children, ages nine and five. His family, already grappling with the loss, is also dealing with the fear of the suspect/s still being at large.
In times like these, the community is stepping up to help. A close family friend, Rekha Koirala, described the outpouring of support from friends and neighbors, all coming together to offer comfort and assistance to Ram Rai’s grieving family. While they trust the Portland Police Bureau to do everything they can to solve this case, they are asking for any information that could lead to the capture of the perpetrator.
