New Death Stranding Series Coming to Disney+ in 2027

Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind the popular franchise Death Stranding, recently announced a new project that has fans buzzing with excitement. A brand new anime series, tentatively titled Death Stranding Isolations, is set to hit Disney+ in 2027. This announcement was made at a Disney+ event in Hong Kong, where Kojima revealed that he will be executive producing the series.

This upcoming anime will explore a new story within the Death Stranding universe, offering fans a fresh perspective that doesn’t rely on the narratives of the games. While details are still sparse, we do know that the series will follow the journey of a young man and woman embarking on an adventure. In a nod to traditional animation, the show will feature hand-drawn 2D animation. Concept art showcased at the event was created by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for their work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.

For those unfamiliar, Death Stranding originally debuted in 2019 and featured notable actors like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux. Earlier this year, the franchise saw the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, much to the delight of fans.

In addition to this exciting anime series, Kojima also teased a live-action film project in collaboration with production company A24 back in 2023. Directed by Michael Sarnoski, known for A Quiet Place: Day One, this film aims to push the boundaries of cinematic adaptation beyond the typical game-to-movie format.

While live-action adaptations of games are becoming more common, animated productions are also making their mark. Platforms like Netflix have seen success with game-based animations like Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Arcane, Castlevania, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Now, Death Stranding Isolations has the potential to be a standout addition to Disney+ as the first gaming intellectual property-based animated series on the platform.
