Netflix users were surprised to see Mia Goth taking on two roles in the new film Frankenstein. While most recognize her as Lady Elizabeth, the fiancée of Victor Frankenstein’s brother William, some eagle-eyed fans spotted her earlier appearance as Victor’s mother, Baroness Claire, in a flashback scene. Many viewers were shocked by this revelation, with some even watching the movie multiple times without recognizing her.

The distinction between Goth’s two characters is highlighted by their costumes: Claire in deep red and Elizabeth in green. Oscar Isaac, who plays Victor Frankenstein, commented on the Oedipal undertones of casting Goth in both roles, as Victor falls in love with Elizabeth, who resembles his mother in his mind.

Del Toro praised Jacob Elordi for stepping in to replace Andrew Garfield as the creature in the film. Despite Garfield dropping out due to scheduling conflicts, the filmmaker and makeup artist Mike Hill believe that Elordi was the perfect fit for the role.
