Redesigned Disney+ App Rolling Out to More Users in the US
Good news for Disney+ fans in the US! Disney is rolling out its newly redesigned interface to more users today, giving the streaming service a fresh new look. This update brings Disney+ in line with the visually striking style of Netflix, with bold key art front and center.
The most noticeable change in the new Disney+ app is the addition of a horizontal navigation bar. This bar now includes separate tabs for recommendations (under the “For You” section), Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. Disney has also introduced a new algorithm that takes your viewing history into account to offer personalized recommendations. Additionally, live TV streams are now integrated into the app via a dedicated tab in the vertical menu.
Outside the US, this new interface coincides with the rebranding of Disney’s Star streaming service to Hulu. Disney’s long-term plan involves eventually merging Hulu content into Disney+ by 2026. While Hulu currently has its own tab in the app, it will eventually become just one of many sources of content within Disney+. Furthermore, the live TV component of Hulu + Live TV will eventually join forces with Fubo, creating a larger competitor to YouTube TV, in which Disney will hold a 70 percent stake.
The rivalry between Google and Disney may be a factor in the delay of resolving carriage disputes that have led to channels like ABC and ESPN being blocked on YouTube TV. As Disney continues to expand its streaming offerings and user experience, it’ll be interesting to see how this competition unfolds. Get ready for a whole new Disney+ experience coming your way!
