Disney warns of potential ABC and ESPN blackout on YouTube TV before 30 October deadline
Attention YouTube TV subscribers! Disney has issued a warning that ABC stations and beloved channels like ESPN, FX, National Geographic, and Disney Channel may disappear from your screens if a new distribution deal isn’t reached by 30th October. Notices started appearing on Thursday, and the clock is ticking on this agreement.
If negotiations fall through, some of your favorite sports programming like NFL, college football, NBA, and NHL could be affected. It’s a stressful time for the estimated 10 million YouTube TV subscribers who enjoy the platform’s core bundle for $82.99 a month.
The dispute between Disney and Google’s vMVPD is all about those pesky carriage fees and details both sides are keeping mum about. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen high-profile clashes like this, with recent standoffs involving other major networks.
But don’t lose hope just yet – there’s still time to work things out. A similar disagreement between YouTube and NBC Universal was resolved earlier this month, paving the way for a new deal that even included NBC streamer Peacock. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a similar turnaround here!
Stay tuned for updates as the deadline approaches. Remember, we’re all in this together.
