Half Man, Baby Reindeer Creator’s New Series for HBO Max: A Sneak Peek

HBO and the BBC have given us a sneak peek at their upcoming original drama series, Half Man, created by Emmy-winning Richard Gadd. The show, set to premiere in 2026, will consist of six episodes and will feature Jamie Bell and Gadd in the lead roles.

So, what’s Half Man all about? The series revolves around the tumultuous, nearly forty-year relationship between two estranged “brothers,” Niall and Ruben. The story begins with a violent incident at Niall’s wedding, leading the characters on a journey back through their shared past. Spanning from the 1980s to the present day, the narrative explores the highs and lows of their bond, tracing their evolution from troubled teens to estranged adults.

The aim of Half Man is to capture the dynamic energy of a changing world while delving into the complexities of masculinity. The younger versions of Niall and Ruben will be portrayed by Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell, showcasing their evolving relationship over time.

The cast of Half Man includes Richard Gadd as Niall, Jamie Bell as Ruben, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, and many others.

Created and written by Richard Gadd, directed by Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck, the series is a collaborative effort between Mam Tor Productions, the BBC, BBC Scotland, and HBO. While we don’t have a specific release date yet, Half Man is expected to debut in 2026. If you’re in the US, Latin America, or Europe, you can catch it on HBO Max, and viewers in the UK and Ireland can watch it on BBC iPlayer, BBC One, and BBC Scotland.
