Disney+ Dolby Vision and 3D Support Returns to Europe

Disney+ has some good news for its viewers in Europe – Dolby Vision and 3D support is back! After a patent dispute with Interdigital, a US-based company, Disney+ had to temporarily disable these features last month. But now, thanks to resolving the legal conflict, viewers can once again enjoy these premium formats. While 4K quality and HDR 10 support were still available during the dispute, it’s great to have Dolby Vision and 3D back up and running.

According to a statement from Disney+, the company had to make changes to certain advanced video formats in Germany and other markets due to the lawsuit. Currently, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and 3D are only available on Disney+’s ad-free Premium plan, which costs $18.99/month in the US. Additionally, 3D movies are streamed in Dolby Vision format and are exclusive to the Apple Vision Pro.

Disney emphasized that they worked quickly to find solutions to ensure viewers have the best experience possible on their devices and subscriptions. However, Premium subscribers in Europe affected by the temporary removal of Dolby Vision and 3D support were not compensated.

In other Disney+ news, the platform has introduced Verts, a new feature similar to TikTok, showcasing vertical videos in the mobile app. Currently only available in the US, Disney hopes that Verts will offer fans a fresh and engaging way to connect with the stories they love.
