Gracenote Report Shows 52% Surge in Live Sports Program Streaming, Driven by Peacock

Fans of live sports streaming have reason to celebrate, with a recent report by Gracenote showing a whopping 52% surge in sports programming offered by the top five subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services. This increase, highlighted in the latest update from Gracenote Data Hub, emphasizes the growing importance of sports content in keeping viewers engaged.

In the past year, Paramount+ has emerged as the leader in streaming sports programming, surpassing Prime Video and Netflix at the individual game and event level. With the recent acquisition of UFC broadcast rights from ESPN, Paramount+ now boasts more than double the sports content of any SVOD platform—a remarkable 219% increase. Meanwhile, Disney+ saw its sports catalog shrink by 23% during the same period.

But the rise in streaming content isn’t limited to subscription platforms alone. Free ad-supported, no-cost services have also seen significant growth in sports programming. Gracenote’s examination of 2,060 FAST channels worldwide revealed a 30% increase in sports content, with AVOD platform Tubi’s live-stream of Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, leading the way.

Not to be outdone, news programming on free ad-supported streaming services saw a 58% increase, with more than 200 dedicated news channels now available. And for movie and TV enthusiasts, there’s good news too—movies and TV shows available on FAST rose by 26% and 24%, respectively, according to Gracenote’s data.

The streaming landscape continues to evolve, with more options than ever for fans of live sports and entertainment. Whether you’re a die-hard sports fanatic or just looking for something new to watch, there’s no shortage of exciting content waiting for you to stream.
