Review: My Disappointment with Frozen: The Broadway Musical on Disney+
This weekend, Disney+ added the stage version of Frozen, and as a musical theatre enthusiast, I was eagerly anticipating its release. However, after watching it, I have to admit that it didn’t quite meet my expectations. Let me explain.
Growing up, I always had a soft spot for musical theatre, so when I heard that Frozen was coming to Disney+, I was thrilled. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see a beloved Disney movie brought to life on stage, right? But, despite its solid performances and visuals, the musical didn’t quite capture my attention like I thought it would. In fact, I had to take a break and come back to it later. And I think I know why.
Before the Broadway version of Frozen premiered in 2018, new songs were added by the original movie songwriters. I was excited to hear these fresh tunes, but to my disappointment, I found them to be quite forgettable. While I understand the need for additional songs to enhance the storytelling, these new tracks just didn’t resonate with me. And to top it off, my favorite scene from the movie, “For The First Time In Forever (Reprise),” was left out. It was a bummer to say the least.
Despite my disappointment, I still encourage you to check it out and form your own opinion. Maybe it will resonate with you more than it did with me. As a Disney fan, I was hopeful for a magical experience, but sometimes things don’t always turn out as expected. Here’s to hoping that the next Broadway show added to Disney+ will be a hit!
