Alice and Steve: A Fun Mess Worth Watching
Alice and Steve is a quirky and captivating British comedy series on Hulu that follows the story of two long-time friends in their 50s who find themselves at odds when one of them gets romantically involved with the other’s 26-year-old daughter. Starring Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker, the show kicks off with a rather cliché scene of the two characters drowning their sorrows after a friend’s funeral.
From the get-go, the premise of the show is a bit cringy, but it’s hard not to be drawn in by the stellar performances of Clement and Walker. Steve, a quirky and unlucky celebrity hair stylist, finds himself in a whirlwind romance with his friend’s daughter, Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith. The tension rises as their forbidden love affair takes center stage, leading to some unexpected twists and turns.
While the series may not adhere to traditional storytelling structures, it relies heavily on the charm of its actors and the occasional standout moment to keep viewers engaged. And despite its flaws, Alice and Steve manages to strike a chord with audiences, thanks in no small part to the talent of its cast. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted romp with a dash of drama, this show might just be the perfect fit for your next binge-watch session.
