Disney+ UK acquires The Great White from See-Saw in Mediawan agreement

Disney+ UK has secured the rights to stream the upcoming legal workplace drama “The Great White” from See-Saw Films. The series, consisting of six episodes, is currently in production in Sydney and features Hugo Weaving in the lead role of a barrister facing professional misconduct repercussions. Set to air on Australian broadcaster ABC TV and ABC iView, “The Great White” is expected to make its debut in 2027.

Mediawan Rights, the parent company of See-Saw Films, announced the UK deal and highlighted their commitment to early-stage involvement in the development of dramas. This strategic approach has contributed to successful partnerships on recent titles like the BBC’s “Riot Women” and the upcoming “California Avenue” from Hugo Blick.

Directed by Bafta-winner Alyssa McClelland, with Mia Wasikowska making her TV directing debut and Samantha Lang also taking the helm, “The Great White” promises a unique and heartfelt storytelling experience. The series was created by playwright and screenwriter Ange Betzien, with scripts penned by Betzien, Nick Coyle, and Andrew Anastasios.

In addition to Weaving, the ensemble cast includes talented actors like Eamon Farren, Miranda Otto, Arlo Green, and Emily Barclay. With backing from Screen Australia and Screen NSW, this collaboration marks a significant milestone for See-Saw Films as they venture into new territory with their first project for the ABC.
