Lehigh Valley police officer quits job to join Love Island USA, causing backlash from chief and mayor
Former Bethlehem police officer Sean Reifel, hailing from Easton, has made a surprising career pivot by joining the cast of the upcoming season of ‘Love Island USA.’ In a recent trailer for the popular reality dating show, Reifel, who left his position on May 20, emphasized his background as a dedicated police officer. Despite his enthusiasm for his new adventure, his decision has left some of his former colleagues less than thrilled.
The Bethlehem Police Department, already facing a shortage of 15 officers, expressed disappointment over Reifel’s departure. Police Chief Michelle Kott mentioned that they strive to recruit the best individuals for their team and investing in training and resources, only to have them leave so soon can be disheartening. Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds, who swore Reifel in last August, acknowledged that individuals have the freedom to pursue their interests, but emphasized the importance of maintaining a fully staffed police department.
Reifel is set to join a group of singles in a Fijian villa for the eighth season of ‘Love Island USA,’ where they will compete for love and a $100,000 prize. The show promises sun-soaked chaos and memorable moments as the contestants navigate relationships in a tropical paradise. The new season is scheduled to premiere on June 2nd on Peacock, so fans can look forward to seeing Reifel’s journey unfold on screen.
