Disney+ Free Tier: Possible Plan in the Works

Disney+ keeps upping its prices, but maybe there’s some light at the end of the tunnel. Reports are suggesting that Disney might be considering adding a free tier to its streaming service. Yup, you heard that right!

Rumor has it that Disney is eyeing the option of offering some content on Disney+ without requiring a paid subscription. This move could be a direct response to younger audiences turning to free platforms like YouTube for their entertainment fix. While there aren’t many details available yet, Disney’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Adam Smith, hinted at these potential plans during a recent company event.

We don’t know for sure which content would be included in this free tier. It could involve shifting existing content to the free side, or Disney might whip up brand-new content specifically for this plan. This year, Disney introduced vertical videos featuring original short-form shows and promotional content. Could this pave the way for a whole new selection of bite-sized TV shows on a free version of Disney+?

Currently, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video don’t have free tiers, with Amazon requiring an Amazon Prime membership for its ad-supported option. Apple does offer some select season premieres for free, but Disney+ making the leap to a free tier could set it apart from the rest.

Right now, Disney+ offers a range of plans, from standalone options to bundles with Hulu. With prices varying between $13 and $20 per month, a free tier could shake things up. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if we get any more info.
